Did you brake too hard? What does telemetry reveal about this behavior?

Do you slam on the brakes every day? Perhaps without realizing it, you're putting your company's safety at risk—and skyrocketing costs.

Continuing our special series on events captured by vehicle telemetry , today we address a behavior that seems harmless, but which can indicate serious driving errors: hard braking .

What is hard braking?

Hard braking occurs when the driver applies the brakes forcefully in a short period of time, usually in response to distraction, speeding, or a lack of defensive driving. It's a sign of reactive, not preventative, driving. And that can be costly.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States, approximately 87% of accidents could be avoided with adequate anticipation by drivers —that is, with less hard braking.

Why is this behavior so harmful?

Aggressive braking affects three fundamental pillars of fleet operation:

  1. Premature wear: tires, brakes, and suspension systems are directly impacted, reducing their lifespan and increasing corrective maintenance costs.

  2. Fuel consumption: vehicles that operate in "reactive mode" (braking and accelerating excessively) consume more fuel.

  3. Operational safety: increases the risk of rear-end collisions, crashes, and accidents involving pedestrians.

Furthermore, this behavior indicates a lack of planning in driving — something that can and should be corrected with the support of technology and education.

What does MOBS2 telemetry reveal?

MOBS2's advanced telemetry captures, in real time, hard braking events, their frequency and intensity. This data is analyzed and presented to fleet managers in a clear way, allowing for quick and evidence-based interventions. But it's not enough to just know: it's necessary to act on the data . And that's where MOBS2 School comes in.

Education that transforms behaviors

MOBS2 School offers specific training on safe and preventative driving. Through didactic and accessible content, drivers are guided on how to avoid this type of behavior and adopt practices that prioritize safety, comfort, and efficiency.

If your company wants to reduce accidents, extend fleet lifespan, and save on maintenance, don't ignore the alerts that telemetry is giving you .

Get in touch with MOBS2. Let's work together to transform data into decisions — and decisions into results.
